High School Students

In the next decade, 60% of commercial pilots are expected to retire. If your dream is to experience the prestige and adventure of being a pilot, this program is for you.

Our program is designed to take you from your junior or senior year in high school to a career in commercial aviation. Our comprehensive flight training, combined with a four–year aviation degree will set you on a path to be competitive for an aviation job in commercial, cargo or corporate flying, or in maintenance and aviation management.

To be competitive in commercial aviation, you need to earn a four–year degree from an accredited university. You also need hands-on experience as a pilot. In our program you will graduate from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and as you study, gain experience as a pilot. By the time you graduate, you will have all of the necessary tools to realize your dream of becoming a professional pilot.

It's easy. Start by earning your Private Pilot License during your summer vacation. This is the first step toward your new career. With a Private Pilot License, you can carry passengers and operate an aircraft anywhere. Then, during the school year, focus on your studies, sports, and other school activities. The following summer you can come back and earn your instrument rating. This will open doors to almost unlimited flying opportunities.

At this time in high school, you are probably deciding on a college to attend. If you choose this program, your first two years would be spent at Palm Beach Community College earning you the Professional Pilot Technology A.A.S. or A.S. degree. During the summer of your freshman year, you will complete the commercial pilot flight training, which will give you the ability to fly for hire. Your commercial rating allows you to get paid to fly. One popular route at this time in a pilot's career is to become a flight instructor. About the time you finish at PBCC, you can complete your Certified Flight Instructor training. At this point you will be employable as a pilot, training new pilots. From here you can transfer to the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) extension program (Pompano Beach campus) and finish your four–year degree while teaching others to fly.

After you graduate from ERAU, the time you have spent in flight training should give you enough experience to get hired in a full-time piloting position. Your four–year degree, flight time will make you a competitive candidate as an airline first officer, charter or cargo pilot, as well as for jobs in aviation management or maintenance.
